Our story

A kindergarten teacher’s calm start

Little Acorns opened in 2014 in a small building next to the Westmorland library branch, with a fenced playground out back.

Laura Jensen taught kindergarten before that, and she built the place around what she kept wishing for: a calm start. The rooms are small on purpose.

  • 01

    Small rooms, always

Eight children and two teachers per classroom, whatever the day brings.

  • 02

    Outside, every day

Children play in the fenced playground behind the building, rain or shine.

  • 03

    Tell parents the truth

The daily report says what happened, including the short nap and the bumped knee.

Why Little Acorns

What small rooms and a real kitchen change for your child

A few things we do that you can see for yourself on a morning tour.

  1. Two teachers, eight children

Every classroom holds eight children with two teachers, so transitions and nap time stay calm and each child is seen.

  2. Lunch cooked on site

Lunch and snacks are prepared in our kitchen. You do not need to pack food or send a lunchbox.

  3. Outdoor play every day

The fenced playground sits behind the building, and children go outside daily to run, climb and dig.

  4. A door that stays coded

The front door is coded and every pickup is signed. A child leaves only with an adult you have authorized.
